For the Love of Colors

Sometimes being a lover of bold and bright colors can be a challenge when working in a black and gray world. Can you imagine me, a big box of crayons skipping into work all happy go lucky! Yes, you can laugh, because the thought of it makes me laugh as well, but for a long time I suppressed the urge to wear big beautiful bold colors. I felt uncomfortable with being the center of attention and somehow it always felt that due to my plus size figure these bold selections made an even bigger statement. So, I kept to the assumed plus size uniform of dark colors and minimal flare.

I lived like this for a years, a double life; at home I wore beautiful bright colors, animal prints, and even stripes, and then at work a rotation of brown, black and navy. I hid my creativity, and in essence, my true personality.

It is only recently that I’ve started to own my boldness. Fashion is an artistic expression; it’s a representation of ones self and true personality. By hiding and downplaying my style, I was not shining to my maximum ability at work. I was keeping my employer from seeing my creative flare.

So now instead of hiding my true colors, I wear them with pride, constantly searching for ways to mix in my love for fashion with my everyday career wear.

How do you show your style flare at work?

About the look:
This look came via Lane Bryant. As you ladies know, I’m a big LB fan. I love the diversity in their clothing options and the fact that after so many years, they have stayed true to their brick and mortar roots.

First, I’ll start with this amazing blazer; the Double Weave Suit Jacket is my all time favorite blazer. If Lane Bryant made it in every color I would never shop anywhere else! I’m in a size 18, but I could have sized down to a 16 for a more fitted look. It has a slight sheen to it which I love and some stretch. The sleeves fit me a little long and I was too eager to wear this so I just decided to roll them up instead to taking them to get tailored.

As for the Lena Smart Stretch Crop I am wearing a size 18 and could have probably sized up to a 20. They fit great through the leg just a little tight in the waist. These do have stretch in them and also a slight sheen.

My bag is Cole Haan (sold out but similar, similar, similar) and was thrifted via an amazing event that my blogger babe Curvily hosting at TriBeCa Housing Works. Talk about score!

And last, but certainly not least, is the this amazing Lela Rose top (sold out but similar, similar, similar) which I am so in love with. First, it is so incredibly soft that it feels like a dream on! I love that it flares at the hips and has a slight hi-low effect. Warning! It does run a little tight in the bust. I’m in an 18, I wear a small 42DD and it just fits. However, don’t let sizing shy you away from this top. The colors are just beautiful and this will certainly be your show stopper piece this summer!
