The past few weeks have been an incredible adventure. The first stop on my mini tour was Detroit, Michigan. Yes, I know what you are thinking, but trust me Detroit is like the phoenix, it is the comeback city and I was quickly embraced but the culture, the energy, and the incredibly welcoming community.
Check out a few pictures below from my amazing Detroit adventure!
First up was the boardwalk, with views of Windsor, Ontario, Canada, the beautiful river, and music festivals on each end, I was in heaven. It was the perfect place to hang out with my DELP friends and enjoy the sunset.
Next came the Henry Ford Museum. Wow, what an amazing place! If you are visiting Detroit, this is an absolutely must. As I walked through the exhibits, a journey in American history, I couldn’t help but stop at the Rosa Parks exhibit. Beautiful, sad, and powerful all at the same time.
The next night after “napping” through a work reception (oops!) my roommate and I made our way over to the Ribs and R&B Festival and oh man, I am so glad we did. You would have thought we hadn’t eaten in days because the amount of food we gobbled up was insane! And the mac-n-cheese?! Amazing!!
Now you can’t be so close to Canada and not take a ride over, right?! Well, the next night that is exactly what we did. A quick bus ride over and we were on Canadian soil. Yay! Now I won’t go into details about our adventure returning, let’s just say it involved a very nice taxi driver, scary custom agents, and possible detention! lol!
Anyway, there was no better way to end my trip then a meet-up with several of my beautiful plus size divas, including amazing bloggers Leah of Leah Vernon-Rashad and Liz of illustriousliz. It was an incredible night at the newly launched Townhouse Restaurant, full of great conversation, laughs, and drinks! A huge hug goes out to all of the lovely ladies and the one brave gentleman that joined us!
So there you have it, folks! Now this was not my first time in Detroit so I opted not to do some of the other tours and museums I’ve done in the past, but please rest assure, Detroit is amazing, has incredible history, and culture. I strongly encourage you to give it a shot! To learn more about this amazing city check out: http://visitdetroit.com and tell Larry, Darlene sent you 😉
Stay tuned for next week as SHC travels to San Juan, Puerto Rico!
