Me? A Plus Size Model?

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of being asked to model at the New York Edition of the Golden Confidence Pool Party on behalf of Ashley Stewart. First, lets recap something. Your girl here? Is a whole 5 foot 3 inches – so not your typical model stature. Also, aside from my brief pageant years in my 20's, I've never really modeled AND the idea of walking in high heels on a wooden boardwalk honestly freaked me out. I kept imagining tripping in front of the hundreds of people and making a complete fool out of myself. Talk about being on display! However, when a dear industry friend asks for a favor, my motto is you do it.  So with that I said yes, and you know what, it actually wasn't so bad.

From tall to short, bikinis to one pieces, sarongs to cover ups, the 150+ women (and men) who attended the Golden Confidence Pool Party strutted their stuff like that pool deck was their runway – so hey, I wasn't alone.  The event was definitely a one of a kind plus size showcase the world needed to see. As I looked at all the women arriving to the event I found myself overwhelmed by the amazingly gorgeous women in attendance. I definitely had a few ‘dang girl’ moments. Even more overwhelming was the community and unity among these women. All you saw was fun, laughter, canon balls and dancing.

When it was my time to take the runway I was met with cheers, "yes girl", and lots of "woohoo's".  This picture says it all. Yep, the sassy Darlene showed up and put my insecurities to rest.
