Stepping Outside of My Comfort Zone: Plus Size Cape Dress

Ladies, New York Fashion Week is in full swing and that combined with The Curvy Con has left me feeling a little crazy. From shows to previews it is truly amazing to see so many gorgeous plus size women do their thing. I will be doing a full wrap-up of this crazy week soon but until then I wanted to share with you a look from this summer that somehow got lost in all of the madness.

Ladies, sometime we love a silhouette but for some reason or another we feel we can't wear it.  Maybe it's because of a childhood critique or our internal negative Nelly poisoning our thoughts.  I will say the cape dress is that for me.

For many years because of my petite frame I felt like I couldn't wear a cape or cape dress.  While it is a style I love I thought it would be too overwhelming for me.  Well ladies, sometimes you have to step outside of the box and push yourself to try something new.  For the TCF Style Expo I decided to give this dress a go and let me tell you I am in love.

After reading the reviews I decided to size down to a 16 from my usual size 18 and let me just tell you that it fit perfectly. This dress was fun, classic and a perfect transition dress for the fall. I am so glad that I gave it a chance and that I didn't let that little internal voice talk me out of it. So ladies, what are some of the styles you've been tempted to try?

Hey Darlene,, I just found your blog and it's terrfic. You are doing such a good job here! I really like this cape dress, it's very dramatic and chic. And as for breaking out of your comfortzone, as someone who does styling for a hobby I was told that I had to stay in these very rigiid rules for fashion.  I think as I get more knoweledge of fashion, I realize that is complete nonsense.  Thank you so much for sharing!
