The last few weeks I've been in the worse style rut. We are talking about sweatpants and t-shirt kind of styling. And, no, not even the cute athleisure kind but the kind you wear to paint your house. Yea, it's been bad!
The combination of the weather change here in New York and hitting the 8 month mark on my pregnancy really took a toll on me and somehow in the mix I lost my sassiness – or let's say I misplaced it! I am sure many of you can relate. Between family struggles, illness, or just everyday woes, sometimes we forget to take a time out for ourselves. Well ladies, this weekend I decided it was time to do a little pampering and tap back into that sassy girl. Here are a few of the things I did.
1. Mini Timeout
Every once in a while we have to take a mini timeout. Now this doesn't need to be anything big and extravagant like a vacation or even a full day at the spa. It can honestly be just 10 minutes in the morning to just decompress and spend time with yourself. For me that timeout came in the form of playing music for 20 minutes in the morning. Depending on my mood at times it's soft ballads, other times it's Christmas music. Your mini timeout should be something that relaxes and refocuses you.
2. Treat Yourself
Again, treating yourself doesn't mean you have to go grand. It can be a new outfit, a hair cut or a spa day. For me it was getting a new body scrub. The smell of this amazing scent automatically transported me to a different place and made me feel like the old me again. Even hubby commented on how yummy I smelled which in my book is always a score!
3. Doll Yourself Us
Yes ladies, sometimes we have to do it up to the nines and nope, I don't mean a party dress – but hey if that's your cup of tea then so be it. But seriously, even putting on a simple pair of leggings with a cute top and boots is sometimes enough to feel "normal" again. For me, I decided to take the morning to play in some new makeup, style my hair and pick out a cute outfit. I must say it had been a while since I put on a dress and heels and I automatically felt the sass coming back.
So ladies, whether it's the winter blues or the accumulation of everything going on in your life, sometimes it is easy to lose that sass and lose our way. I am hoping these simple steps can help you feel like your old self again. What are your self-care tips?
