Office Glam & Holiday Parties – The Do’s and Don’ts

December is a wonderful month. Full of holiday cheer, gifts, parties, lots of food and days off.  Plus, everyone always seems to be a little friendlier during the holiday season. As for me, I’m a sucker for it all. I love sappy Christmas movies, holiday decor and yummy eggnog.

Naturally, as I started thinking about my upcoming holiday commitments I couldn’t help but to think about all the fun holiday looks that I could pull together. From the sparkly New Years Eve dress to the work wear appropriate office party look; over the next week, I will focus on how to pull together the perfect looks for this special time of the year.

First up, the office holiday party!

The office party can be tricky and the correct attire completely depends on your company’s corporate culture. Your office party is a great place to pull it all together and look elegant and classic. It is your opportunity to meet staff you may not typically work with and network with senior management in a casual setting. This is not the time to booze up and put on a show for the company. This is the time to bring your A game and work the room like Diana Ross.

So here are a few tips to get you started.

Do: Mingle! Get out there and talk to people outside of your traditional crew. Social settings are a great way to show off your fabulous personality. Introduce yourself to key people and personally thank your CEO for the great party.

Don’t: Drink too much. Drink lots of water and if you’ve passed your limit, jump into a cab and head home. You do not what to be the Christmas story everyone talks about the next day.

Do: Dress up! Even a little more then the usual. Pull out that sequin cardigan or that pretty dress you’ve been dying to wear. Again, holiday parties are a great place to show off your inner glam.

Don’t: Dress as if you are hitting the club. This is not the time to sex it up. If it’s too short, too tight, has too many cut outs or shows off too much on top or bottom – you know you need to pass up on it. Remember, you will see these people the next morning.

Do: Have fun! You have worked hard all year and it’s time to unwind a little. Enjoy some yummy food and sip some bubbly, the year is almost up and 2015 brings new opportunities!
