I often think about the sea of black that I see walking the streets of NYC. For many people, especially women, black offers comfort and reassurance. First, you can’t go wrong with black, right? Second, doesn’t black equal professional? Lastly, for a lot of women, black represents a slimmer silhouette- yes, we’ve all heard the tales of wearing black to look 10 pounds slimmer.
It is clear to see why so many people gravitate to black for the workplace – trust me, I do to! However, every once in a while I feel it is important to switch things up. Occasional I have a meeting or event where I don’t want to blend in with all the black in the room; where I want folks to do a double take when I walk in and where my presence just commands attention.
That ladies, is when I pull out the Power Look. Now what is the Power Look you may ask. The Power Look is that one item, or collection of items, that make you feel like you can rule the world! An outfit that fits to perfection and screams I’m here to do business.
For a long time, to me that always equated to a black suit, but lately I’ve been pushing the corporate boundaries and have realized that color, patterns and nontraditional designs can be just as powerful.
So ladies, dare to stand out and are be different. Don’t hide in a sea of black. Break free and own your power.
About my look: This Igigi look screams “I’m Here!” The Louise Jacket is fully lined and is heavy enough to be worn as a stand alone jacket. I can see this working for work wear and also for weekend wear with skinny jeans. The jacket is true to size but I could have probably sized down to a 14/16. The Mariah Skirt is pencil cut and in my opinion perfectly light weight for the upcoming spring weather. Also true to size, I am in a size 18/20. Top is from Eloquii size 18.
On another note, today marks the 1 year anniversary of Suits, Heels and Curves. I special hug and kiss goes out to all of my followers, friends and family members that stood by my side these past 12 months. Because of you I am living my dream!
Do you have a Power Look? What are your go to power pieces?
