Ladies, were you up with me this Sunday at the crack of dawn stalking the newest addition to the Target designer collaboration aka the Victoria Beckham for Target collection? Yes, my credit card got a lot of exercise that morning as I pondered over which of the oh so many pretty pieces to call my own. Upon first glance I must say I love the collection. It is full of color and spunk which I love and trully has something for everyone.
Much to my surprise my order was delivered in lightening speed (on Tuesday) and I was able to try everything out and give you my first impression that same day via snapchat (suitscurves). Now silly me, I forgot to save those videos to share them on here but if you ladies request it I will do it again over the weekend on my Instagram – what do you think?
Anyway, one of my favorite pieces from the collection was of course the one item I had to wear right away and that is this beautiful blue strip poplin dress. Ladies, you don't even know how many questions and compliments I got on this dress yesterday. And yes, folks were so surprised when I said it was from Target. Ladies, this is the dress you want to hunt down in store since it is sold out online.
Now let's talk fit. I am a 18 on top and 18-20 on bottom. I sized up on pretty much on everything in the collection as I heard it was running a little on the smaller end. Now for this dress I wish I would have selected a size 1x versus the 2x that I am wearing in this picture. With the belt you really can't tell the difference but trust me without the dress is swimming on me. Tall ladies also take note that I am 5'3 and this dress fits at a perfect length for me so length on this might be a point of concern.
Structure? The construction on this dress is a little odd for a plus size woman in my opinion. Why you would put a gathered waist so high under the bust line is besides me. Instant maternity dress! What saved it? The belt was my saving grace so ladies, make sure you have a nice chunky belt to pair with this if you like a more hourglass look. On the plus side, I can always save it for when I am pregnant lol! Aside from the waist band issues I must say those sleeves, OMG, they are everything. How a simple detail can transform a dress?! Victoria, you did good with that one!
Fabric? The fabric was a sturdy poplin (shirt like) material. I thought I would be a wrinkled mess by the end of the day and surprisingly I was not. The dress held up perfectly to a full work day and running around NYC going from event to event. Bonus, somehow I managed not to spill anything on it. Score!
Final thoughts: For me this dress is a must have. The style looks so high-end and sophisticated and for $35 you really can't ask for better then that.
About the entire collection: Not everything will work for everyone. Keep in mind that they are designing for the masses. If you are wider in the hip area like me then be careful with the shift dresses and pants as they are cut pretty narrow – definitely size up. The tops are pretty generous in sizing so you can probably go true to size. Overall, the collection gets a big yes from me! Which items from the collection did you pick up?
